The Visitation of Archbishop Herring in 1746
What number of families have you in the parish. Of these how many are dissenters
i.e. papists, presbyterians, baptists or quakers ?
Twenty eight families of whom three are Papists and two are Quakers
Are there any dissenting meeting houses in your parish ?
We have no licensed or other meeting house
How many schools are there in the parish ?
There is no school though parents take care to teach children at home or send them to some school in the neighbourhood and sometimes I undertake to teach them for a month or two in the year to read and write and instruct them in the principles of the Christian religion
How many almhouses ?
We have no almshouses
Are you resident in the parish ?
I live upon ye Cure being ye curate and dwell in ye house
Do you have a curate ?
I am ye curate and hope I am qualified accordingly
How often are services held ?
Publick Service is read every Sunday and some other days appointed to be kept holy — not twice every Lord’s Day. About six days in the morning and six in the afternoon it is omitted when I do duty at another church. As this is but a bare subsistence Divine Service in my predecessor’s time was performed but once every Lord’s Day

I know of none who are not baptised and of competent age and not confirmed
How often is Holy Communion celebrated ?
Three times in ye year and there are about 56 communicants in the parish of whom some 50 usually receive. There were 52 communicants last Easter

I catechize in the church fifteen or sixteen Sundays in the year and parishioners send their children and their servants
Do you give timely warning of the Sacrament and do parishioners send in their names ? Have you refused the Sacrament to anyone ?
I give timely warning of ye Sacrament but the parishioners neglect to send in their names. I have not refused the Sacrament to any one
According to Hudson’s replies there were 28 families living in the parish compared with 29 dwellings listed in the Hearth Tax of 1673 and 25 families recorded in the Population Census of 1851. His reply about catechizing shows that farm tenants of the mid 18th century were able to employservants.
